Backtracks 2005

That's René

Backtracks 2005 is a DIY covers EP by folk/Americana artist That’s René.  It presents five acoustic rock–style renditions of well-known classic songs.

Take It Easy - The Eagles
Runaway - Bon Jovi
Who'll Stop The Rain - CCR
Sister Golden Hair - America
Like A Hurricane - Neil Young

According to René’s own bio, his music “runs smoothly into the ear” with “edges and corners” – essentially a laid-back folk/country-rock sound with storytelling lyrics .  The album is guitar-driven and unpolished, in the tradition of “three chords and the truth.”  Lyrics touch on love, loss and life experiences, delivered in René’s warm, raspy voice.

Backtracks 2005 is a niche, low-key EP best suited to listeners who enjoy folksy covers of classic rock tunes.  It’s not a polished studio production – think of a backyard jam or small-venue performance captured on tape.  If that description appeals to you (and you’re a fan of the original songs by Eagles, Neil Young, CCR, etc.), it can be a worthwhile listen.  The strongest aspects are René’s sincere vocal delivery and the warm, uncluttered arrangements music that “flows smoothly into the ear” with a bit of grit.
